Culture Media

The Microclar sterile culture media for the membrane filter technology are offered in 3 ml pre-cut glass vials. To be used, the vial is opened by it?s pre-cut mark, and the content is distributed under aseptic conditions (clean-bench, or near one or better between two Bunsen burners) evenly over the surface of the cellulose pad placed inside the sterile Petri dish.
The membrane is withdrawn from the filter holder with a forceps for membranes (sterilized by flaming it previously), and placed over the surface of the cellulose pad prepared with the selected culture media, taking care that no air bubbles remain trapped between the surface of the pad and the bottom layer of the membrane filter.
After covering the dish, the unit is incubated for a period of 24-72 hours at the temperature prescribed for the culture media being used. During the incubation period, the media?s nutrients migrate by capillarity towards the surface of the membrane, nourish the eventually entrapped microorganisms, allowing the development of colonies that will be later evaluated.

Microclar culture media vials have a shelf life of 12-18 months when stored at 2-8?C. M-TGE and M-GYM can be stored 12 months at room temperature (20-25?C)
